  Covid-19 (Coronavirus) - Status Update Thread

  this topic is to focus on status updates & advice (no opinion or politics please).. status.

  latest status is that it's serious, probably isn't going to be contained and most large companies are making contingency plans, cancelling large events etc... which i don't think would happen if it was just people being alarmist.

  the incubation period means it may have already spread further and infected many more people than are currently known, so expect jumps in the numbers over the coming days and weeks.. tracking.

  Aren't there stories of Antarctic researchers getting sick after their isolation? There certainly was less around here. Traffic went to near normal, stores full, but I saw no queues. Of course if you need a new suit too bad, that is still closed. I expect a bump that will extend the home arrest orders into June

  recognizing that their states have one integrated regional economy, delaware governor john carney, new york governor andrew m. cuomo, new jersey governor phil murphy, connecticut governor ned lamont, pennsylvania governor tom wolf, and rhode island governor gina raimondo today announced the creation of a multi-state council to restore the economy and get people back to work.

  The quarantining of out state residents who are not sick flies in the face of the constitution. Even counties are decreeing non residents stay out. What we are see is balkanization

  Earth Boxes - Has Anyone Here Tried to Use Them to Grow Vegetables

  with some extra time on my hands (putting it mildly), i decided to try planting some vegetables using these things called earth boxes.

  they are basically rectangular tubs with the soil suspended a few inches from the bottom using a screen and you put water into the bottom and you just add water through a tube to the bottom and the plants get their water from beneath instead of adding water from the top.

  then you put a plastic covering around the plants so that weeds don't grow.

  Fresh is worth something. Where I live it can frost into late may so the instructions are to plant after average frost. Still hot days and cold nights. Win some years, lose others. our city water is very expensive too.

  but today he said something i believe is an out and out lie.

  Rush gives himself credit for advising Trump. They both have unpleasant voices. But the other side is smooth snake oil salesmen.

  Better to think for yourself.

  Remember Reagan? One commentator said you never knew if he was John Wayne or gabby hayes day to day. I think the alzheimers had him then. The present crop shows the same signs of dementia, both sides

  What they dont say is why they havent retirned to jehovah. They regularly go beyond what is written.

  The meetings are boring. Doctrine is constantly changing. You cannot use your own head. Not that my head is always right either.

  An example is: I am able bodied, have free time, and a truck. Do you think they will ask me to do any relief work? Aside that I do not meet their definition of spiritual, I might give a sandwich to the non in neighbors.

  New Jobs Coming? Where Have You Worked at?

  with many people's jobs been put and "on hold" and other people's jobs going away for good, i couldn't help but think about all the different jobs i've had over the years.

  i have been able to adapt and make do.

  maybe this will kick in again....or maybe not.

  Lower pay ,fewer benefits, part time. Amazon has a reputation as a slave driver.

  In the longer term think about the jobs that may come back. Be a machine technician or repairman or programmer. Engineer products or processses. Do not become the button pusher though. I became very good at looking at reengineering things to bring cost down, or just to make manufacturing feasible.

  My feeling is the waiting tables for tips and flipping burgers will decline.

  i support local and state and federal government’s power to safeguard the public.

  i wonder is it getting to a point where we will be told we can’t go out anymore, can’t use your phone or computer anymore because of the viruses that we can get, etc.

  are we prolonging this virus at all ?

  I think they are supposed to decide the amount sent each September looking at the financial well being of the congregation. it will be hard to maintain the same level if everyone doesnt get a new job. I expect a downward pressure on wages and hours and increase in living expenses.

  Does the assembly hall still cost $18000 a day to run? Asking for a friend.
